For families

How does GoodWordText work?

You text your GoodWordText number. We send your words into the facility's electronic messaging system, exactly as you wrote them. When the person inside replies, their words come back to your phone as a text.

What does it cost?

There are three plans, each for one person inside: Essential at $9.99 a month (up to 2 family phone numbers), Plus at $19.99 a month (up to 4 numbers and 10 free 4x6 prints a month), and Family at $29.99 a month (up to 6 numbers, 20 free 4x6 prints a month, and reminders and card help). Every plan starts with a 48-hour free trial, then renews monthly at the plan's price until you cancel.

If your church sponsors your seat, you pay nothing for it. Compare plans.

Are texts really unlimited?

Yes, for personal messages. Unlimited texts are for personal messages between you and your family. We may pause accounts that send automated, bulk or commercial messages. Read the fair-use terms.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, whenever you want. Every plan and seat includes GoodWord Helper, our automated assistant. It answers questions any time, checks on orders and prints, tells you if the facility has paused messages, helps you change your number or cancel, warns you before a trial or renewal charge, and turns the daily good word on or off.

To reach a person, text PERSON at any time. Safety concerns, billing disputes and facility blocks always go to a person.

Send PERSON and GOODWORD OFF to your GoodWord Helper number, not your regular GoodWordText number. Your regular number passes every message to the person inside word for word, so the helper has its own number.

GoodWord Helper only talks with you. It never writes to the person inside or pretends to be anyone, and it never changes your messages. If it helps you write a card or note, nothing is sent until you approve the exact words. It never talks with a sponsor about anyone's messages.

What is the daily good word?

It's an optional short, encouraging text sent to you each morning. It's written to welcome people of every faith and none. It's free on every plan and every sponsored seat.

It's off unless you turn it on, at sign-up or by asking GoodWord Helper. Text GOODWORD OFF (or ask GoodWord Helper) to stop the daily good word. Texting STOP stops all texts from us.

Send PERSON and GOODWORD OFF to your GoodWord Helper number, not your regular GoodWordText number. Your regular number passes every message to the person inside word for word, so the helper has its own number.

How do I cancel?

Go to your account page and use the cancel form. You can cancel at any time. If you cancel within 7 days of your first charge, we refund it in full.

Will you text me before I say yes?

No. After you sign up, we send one text. We don't send anything else until you reply YES. Reply STOP at any time to stop all texts.

Can I sign up someone else's phone?

No. Only the person who owns a phone number can sign it up and say yes to texts. If a family member wants to use GoodWordText too, they sign up on their own phone.

Do I need an account with the facility?

Yes. You hold your own account on the facility's messaging system, and you give us written permission to send your words through it. We walk you through it step by step.

Do you change my words?

No. We send your words exactly as you wrote them. Each facility has its own rules, and a message that breaks them may be held back by the facility.

How fast do messages arrive?

It depends on the facility. Each one has its own system and its own timing, so we can't promise a delivery time.

Does it work at every prison and jail?

Not every one. Many prisons and jails offer electronic messages, but some don't. Use our facility check, and we'll check for you.

What if the facility stops messages?

We pause your plan and let you know. You aren't charged for the pause.

What can't I send?

We don't offer sports picks, looking people up, money requests, messages about other people inside, or messages between two people who are both inside.

Can I send photos or cards?

Yes. A 4x6 photo print is $0.25. A letter-size print is $0.50 plain or $1.00 glossy. A greeting card is $3.99. Plus includes 10 free 4x6 prints a month and Family includes 20; free prints count against 4x6 prints only. Prints and cards already sent can't be refunded.

Can more of my family use the same plan?

Yes. Essential covers up to 2 family phone numbers, Plus up to 4, and Family up to 6. You can add an extra family phone number to any plan for $3 a month. Each person signs up their own number and says yes to texts themselves.

How long do you keep my messages?

We delete message words and pictures after 90 days. Account records are kept for 24 months. Records of when you said yes or STOP are kept as long as the law requires. Read our Privacy Policy.

I have a seat code from my church. What do I do?

Sign up as normal and enter the code in the "Seat code from your church" box. If your seat code is confirmed, your church covers your plan and you won't be charged.

Do I have to be part of a church to use this?

No. Anyone 18 or older can sign up. GoodWordText is offered through churches and ministries, and it welcomes people of every faith and none.

For churches and ministries

How does sponsoring work?

Your church or ministry chooses how many seats to pay for. We give you a seat code for each one. You hand the codes to the families you serve. Each person signs up on their own phone, enters the code, and says yes to texts themselves.

What does a sponsored seat cost?

$7.99 a month per seat when a church or ministry sponsors 5 or more seats. A seat includes everything in the Essential plan. You are billed monthly per seat. Use the seat calculator to see your monthly total.

Do we give you people's phone numbers?

No, never. A sponsor pays but never signs anyone up and never enters anyone's phone number. Each person enters their own number and gives their own permission.

Can our church see the messages?

No. A sponsor never sees anyone's messages. Your church pays for seats; each person's messages stay between them and the person they write to.

How do we change or end our seats?

Contact us through the form on the churches page to change or end seats. You can lower seats or end at any time.

Can we use our own words when we share it?

Yes. Add your own welcome, blessing or scripture in your bulletin or announcement. Our bulletin insert leaves a space for your church's name.

Is GoodWordText tied to one denomination?

No. It's open to every congregation and tradition. Our own words stay plain and welcoming to all.
